City Fabrick called and told us they were working with the California Endowment to celebrate the half way point of a 10 year, $1 Billion investment in 14 underserved communities in California. They had an ambitious timeline and a thoughtful design for an upcoming conference. They also needed lots and lots of cardboard furniture.
We worked closely with the City Fabrick team to finalize furniture selections, design print layouts, and send everything to production within three days. Fast forward through a week of intense production. Cut to our delivery truck pulling up to the event venue 30 hours before set up was scheduled to begin. The pallets came off the truck, and our work was done.
But City Fabrick? Their work was just getting started. They spent the next 48 hrs turning an average looking hotel into a cardboard village full of engaging environments, informative displays, and spaces for connection. The cardboard created a blank slate for the attendees’ imaginations while also delivering on their value-based goal of creating a sustainable, low impact design.
After three days of important conversation about the future of healthy communities in California, the event concluded. City Fabrick gathered up all their cardboard furniture, wondering what to do with it next. They could have recycled it all, but they never got that far. Their client, the California Endowment, requested that the furniture be sent back to their headquarters.
Which is how 100 pieces of Chairigami furniture found themselves in a beautiful courtyard helping the California Endowment celebrate their anniversary. Not a bad way to end the week.
The Green Schools National Network (GSNN) debuted their brand new Chairigami trade show booth at the 2016 Green Schools Conference and Expo. GSNN is a 501(c)3 non-profit whose mission is to create broad-based initiatives and successful strategies to foster healthy, sustainable K-12 schools across the United States. GSNN chose Chairigami furniture for their booth due to its ease of use and green design principles, which align well with their mission.
The Chairigami furniture provided simple and reliable seating while also helping GSNN share their work and mission with conference attendees:
“People dropped by to test out the furniture and ended up leaving with a better understanding of GSNN’s work with schools, a win for everyone. With our organization’s focus on sustainability, it is great for us to walk the walk and use furniture that can be recycled for any number of purposes, including future conference expos.”
GSSN loved their furniture, and we loved hearing about how much they loved it. Clients tell us these kinds of stories all the time, but it never really gets old:
“People do not normally think of cardboard as being sturdy enough to sit on, yet Chairigami’s pieces held up and were comfortable too!”
Chris needed furniture, and he needed it fast. He’d heard about us from friends in the comics industry, and thought our Standing Desk would be ideal for his upcoming event. With his deadline only six days away, he needed something that could ship quickly.
Less than five hours after calling us, Chris’s desks were on their way to 4 Color Fantasies, the comic shop he runs in Rancho Cucamonga, California. The desks arrived on time and provided space for fans to meet Hope Larson and Brittney Williams, the authors of new comic called Goldie Vance.
Many of our customers are small business owners translating ideas into reality on a very short timeline. We work hard to make that possible. In the case of 4 Color Fantasies, our quick fulfillment delivered Chris’s order on time, with no expedited shipping or up-charges needed.
What are you working on? If you have a short timeline, we want to hear from you. Give us a call at 203-747-8252.
Chairigami recently appeared on stage at Tropfest in Australia. Announcers gathered around a custom branded Coffee Table and sat in four Arm Chairs while presenting a series of 16 short films to an audience of over 150,000 people.
We were thrilled to be included in this inspiring event that started 24 years ago when John Polson screened his very first film to a room full of friends at a local cafe. For a little background on how this small event eventually grew to become the largest short film festival in the world, watch this short but moving interview with John Polson himself.
The Tropfest organizers chose a slightly modified version of our Talk Show set for their stage design, which is ideal for hosting panel discussions or interviews. When empty, the Arm Chair's striking profile creates visual interest on stage. When occupied, the chairs make it easy and comfortable to conduct panel discussions or interviews.
It was an honor to see Chairigami featured on stage at this world renown event. Thank you to Golden Duck Productions for including us in their beautiful event design.
Chairigami recently appeared at the NAMM Show in California where over 100,000 music professionals gathered to exhibit their products. As a passionate team selling made in America cardboard furniture, we were excited to team up with the similarly minded folks at Pittsburg Modular to create a booth for the show.
Pittsburgh Modular hand assembles synthesizers in Pittsburgh, selling them to a growing list of renown musicians and music retailers. Chairigami Standing Desks and a cleverly designed lounge area allowed their team to display those synthesizers while connecting with new clients. Large format stickers provided by Pittsburgh Modular finished off the design. The stickers applied easily to the cardboard furniture and created a one of a kind installation.
We'd like to think that the great booth design was what attracted the attention of legendary guitarist Vernon Reid, but let's be honest: he was probably there for the synthesizers.
Airhead Sports needed to show off their water sports products at a recent trade show. Chairigami furniture provided displays and seating for their team while serving as a canvas for their branded stickers and decals. The neutral palette of the cardboard left plenty of visual space for their graphic, colorful stand up paddle boards.
Not only did the Chairigami work for them during the show, it worked for them during set up and tear down as well. Chairigami sets ups quickly, tears down even more quickly, and flat packs for easy travel.
Chairigami is also fully recyclable, so in a few years, when it's time for the next project, they can send those paper fibers on to their next life as another consumer product. That product probably won't be as fun as Chairigami, but hey, at least they avoided the landfill.
Adding furniture to your trade show booth doesn't have to be a complicated or expensive affair. Stunt Puppy already had product displays and a great looking backdrop in place to show off their thoughtfully designed leashes and collars. A few Stools and a Kickstarter Desk were all they needed to finish up their booth design.
On a small budget they created a workspace for their team and convenient seating for their clients. That was probably a good idea, too, since everyone at show is going to want to hang out with their adorable stuffed animal models.
The MailChimp recruiting team needed a work station and a place to store their materials, which in this case was an internally designed newspaper called the "The Chimpington Post". We designed a custom Newsstand and Bar, then finalized the pieces with a direct logo print in crisp white ink. If you're looking for a great way to tell your story, give us a shout! The Bar & Newsstand are available for purchase via our custom quote form. Mention this post and let us know what you have in mind.
We use MailChimp every month to send out our own newsletters, which made it even more fun to help them out with this project. This is exactly the kind of project we love: helping a company we admire tell their unique story in a playful & visually impactful way. We were especially pleased to see that a couple of Freddie hats and a few bunches of bananas found their home on the Bar.
Chairigami and Solmate Socks worked together to design this colorful cardboard booth for Solmate's socks, hats, scarves, and mittens.
We screen printed Solmate's own sock patterns to the Benches and Standing Desk to create a cheerful warmth in the booth. To set up the ideal browsing environment, we installed Double Shelves (shown horizontally) on top of Benches and lined each compartment with customized white vinyl inserts. The end result was a friendly, inviting booth where the Solmate team could show off their products and engage with new clients.
While working with Solmate to design their booth, we were thrilled to discover similarities in our companies. They too value clever design, environmentally responsible products, and Made in America manufacturing. It's always fun helping our clients create great looking tradeshow booths, but it is especially rewarding to work with another small company full of quirky, passionate makers.
By the time the booth was complete, they had us convinced: life really is too short for matching socks.
Chairigami comes full circle. Our original chair design (featured in the Chairigami logo) was inspired by the needs of college students looking for affordable, well designed, light weight furniture that folds flat and is easy to move and pack.
Four years later we've expanded to 20 original cardboard furniture designs for customers all over the country, and it all started with the search for the perfect chair for a college dorm room.
Another generation of students will be scheming up plans while sitting at a Chairigami chair on the same campus where that chair got its start. Who knows what sort of amazing and creative projects will be dreamt up in this completely cardboard furnished dorm room.
Hi I'm Zach. I'm the founder of chairigami and I love all things cardboard.
