City Fabrick called and told us they were working with the California Endowment to celebrate the half way point of a 10 year, $1 Billion investment in 14 underserved communities in California. They had an ambitious timeline and a thoughtful design for an upcoming conference. They also needed lots and lots of cardboard furniture.
We worked closely with the City Fabrick team to finalize furniture selections, design print layouts, and send everything to production within three days. Fast forward through a week of intense production. Cut to our delivery truck pulling up to the event venue 30 hours before set up was scheduled to begin. The pallets came off the truck, and our work was done.
But City Fabrick? Their work was just getting started. They spent the next 48 hrs turning an average looking hotel into a cardboard village full of engaging environments, informative displays, and spaces for connection. The cardboard created a blank slate for the attendees’ imaginations while also delivering on their value-based goal of creating a sustainable, low impact design.
After three days of important conversation about the future of healthy communities in California, the event concluded. City Fabrick gathered up all their cardboard furniture, wondering what to do with it next. They could have recycled it all, but they never got that far. Their client, the California Endowment, requested that the furniture be sent back to their headquarters.
Which is how 100 pieces of Chairigami furniture found themselves in a beautiful courtyard helping the California Endowment celebrate their anniversary. Not a bad way to end the week.
